Last night, I received an email from ElevenLabs, and the excitement in their message was palpable:

With these funds, we aim to propel our research, expand our infrastructure, introduce new products, and reinforce safety measures, ensuring the responsible and ethical development of AI technology.”

ElevenLabs, a speech and voice synthesis AI tool, has quietly been making waves in the media world, and it’s time we give it the credit it deserves. The tool facilitates a seamless script-to-voice generation process for videos and podcasts—an underrated gem in the industry.

But why should you care?

Well, let’s dive into some often-overlooked features, particularly the dubbing tool. I decided to give it a shot, and while it’s not flawless, it gets the job done. Check out the video I dubbed for demonstration purposes:

The footage was created on the Pika generating platform, but the audio? That’s all, ElevenLabs. Accompanied by the Stability Platform music, this video has easily been translated into Chinese, French, and various other languages worldwide.

Now, let’s talk about the Speech Classifier—a vital tool for ethical AI. Ensuring that AI-generated images and tools can be verified easily is crucial. An interesting feature is the ability to dub a voice to the tool, allowing it to generate voiceovers for different projects with the same voice, eliminating the need to engage an artist.

Moving on to professional voice cloning, ElevenLabs currently limits you to cloning yourself, raising questions about security guarantees and data control.

Then there’s VoiceLab, a creative AI toolkit that lets you design entirely new synthetic voices from scratch.

Let’s address the elephant in the room—the pricing. Ranging from 0 USD to 330 USD, ElevenLabs caters to creators of all scales, from startups to larger organizations. However, a notable gap lies in the absence of annual plans. @elevenlabs, a plea to work on that!
